My fellow freaks, it’s that fateful time again! In the last few years we’ve seen an incredibly creative trend in the Halloween world — holiday haunts! While we know there are people that keep the Halloween festivities going with skull and bone wreaths and light-up pumpkins year round, the majority of haunted houses shut down and prepare for next Halloween. However, there are a few that manage to resist climbing back into their open graves and instead corpsify their skeletons with fake blood, throw on a Santa hat, and decide to keep on haunting in the free world.
So just like we did last year, we decided to put together a list of places doing haunted houses or other scary attractions for the holiday season! In no particular order, here are the ones we found!
DARK HOUR – PLANO, TX
Dark Hour is always a step-ahead in this industry in terms of the awesome presentation of their haunts. High quality images that showcase the creativity and detail of their characters really go a long way when it comes to advertising a haunted house. Hopefully there’s plenty of videos and pictures of their holiday haunt to come! Wreck the Halls is also notable because of the dates – December 26th and 27th, and also January 2nd and 3rd. It’s rare when you can get scared after New Years!
DEAD TIME DREAMS – SAN JOSE, CA
Dead Time Dreams is a fairly unique haunt on this list because they’re actually open right after Thanksgiving! Running for three weekends, the haunt is located behind a Christmas tree lot and from the looks at it, features some sort of Krampus theme – something we’re hoping we see a lot more of in future haunts!
KIM’S KRYPT – ESSEX, MD
Kim’s Kryptmas in Essex, MD. features a twisted tour of terror through the dark corridors of candy cane lane where your childhood fears become a reality. Three scary nights you can experience this festive horrific event when Santa and the special evil elves are lurking in the shadows waiting for fresh meat. SPECIAL GUEST Warrington Gillette from Friday the 13th Part II will be signing autographs prior to your Kryptmas tour.
THE MASSACRE HAUNTED HOUSE – MONTGOMERY, IL
It’s hard to say just what’s going on down there in Illinois at The Massacre this holiday season. On one hand, we appear to have some sort of a grimy clown version of Santa Claus, while in other pictures, we’ve got sinister holiday pixies and deformed elves clinging to a dreary eyed St. Nick. Whatever it is, if this video is a good indicator of the quality of their haunt, you can guarantee that us Halloween nerds will be at home wishing we had the guts to drive eight hours to get freaked out of our stockings.
FINAL FEAR – BLASDELL, NY
Three whole weekends of Christmas horror await you at one of New York’s most beloved haunts – Final Fear in Buffalo, NY! While we don’t have a ton of details on this particular holiday haunt, we’re completely stoked to know that our friends out east are doing the best to represent the haunt community this time of year. Plus, do the math – $20 for four haunted houses! Hard to beat!
CUTTING EDGE HAUNTED HOUSE – FORT WORTH, TX
A new haunt on our list of holiday attractions, Cutting Edge has always been one of those haunted houses that has reached it’s bloody hand out and grabbed our attention. Needless to say, we’re excited that the Lone Star State has a number of sinister attractions to investigate this time of year.
FALLSBURG HAUNTED HOUSE – FALLSBURG, KY
Another killer event from another killer haunted house from the south! Fallsburg Haunted House returns to our list this year with more decaying mistletoe and bloody boughs of holly! While their seasonal haunt already began on December 6th, there will be creepy elves scampering under their trees through this weekend!
SCARE KINGDOM – BLACKBURN, UK
Scare Kingdom in the UK also returns to our list with what looks to be even more disturbing than last year! According to their Facebook, their story centers around a sequel to A Christmas Carol, taking place in Ebenezer Scrooge’s mansion. One quick look at the two actors in that banner and you know you’re in for some seriously demented storytelling.
FRIGHT MANOR – INDIANAPOLIS, IN
We’ve confirmed that there’s some sort of event happening at Fright Manor in Indianapolis, but we weren’t able to come up with a lot of information on it! Leave us a comment if you know anything!
FRIGHT KINGDOM – NASHUA, NH
Tonight and tomorrow, Fright Kingdom is promising to terrify the holiday spirit right into you with with Krampus, evil elves, snowmen and zombies. From the looks of these pictures we found on their Facebook page, horror fans should expect a high quality experience and a plethora of creeps and freaks.
MACABRE HAUNT – ANTIOCH, IL
Kind of an interesting idea – here’s a haunt that takes place AFTER Christmas! Really curious to see what kind of turnout they get. Will it be a crowd that just loves Christmas so much that they’ll take any chance they can get to get closer to a fluffy white beard, even if it’s covered in blood? Or will it be die-hard haunters who have been itching to be released from the grasp of the holidays for months? Either way, we wish them the best and applaud them on the concept!
CHAMBER OF HORRORS – HAUPPAUGE, NY
What does everyone love more than getting scared? Watching other people get scared! The Chamber of Horrors recently hit the news pretty hard when there were a few seriously pissed off people decrying their entire concept of a holiday haunt! Talk about freaking out the neighbors, right? Supposedly their promo video (seen above) was so disturbing that a few media sources refused to air it. Super funny, especially considering some of the incredibly insane things we all get away with year after year during the Halloween season. Anyway, as they say, “there’s no such thing as bad press,” and we’re hoping that’s true for Chamber of Horrors and their psychotic Santa.
CASTLE BLOOD – MONESSEN, PA
Castle Blood returns with a Spooky Little Cryptmas! 2014 has been a good year for our highly dedicated friends over in Pennsylvania. They recently raised enough money to restore a funeral parlor to become the permanent home for their eccentric and totally unique production. Certainly no small feat, indeed, but Castle Blood is so well-liked and has such a great reputation that they almost doubled their goal of $6,500. Their Christmas event is centered around a story of three lucky charms and while their tale may undoubtedly be a little weird and spooky, they’re not aiming to startle their guests like in a traditional haunt.
MOXLEY MANOR – BEDFORD, TX
Moxley Manor is another new one to arrive on our list, although according to their site, this is their fifth time producing a holiday haunt. December 19th and 20th, the Texas outfit is again presenting “Nightscare Before Christmas” to those brave enough to wander through it’s haunted halls.
BRIGHTON ASYLUM – PASSAIC, NJ
Ah, that’s a nice picture, right? Some sort of ghoulish Santa giving you a nice neck and shoulder massage after he’s chewed off some of your face. What more could you want this holiday season? Go get yours this December 13th, 20th, and 27th at Santa’s Slay – try not to let the jolly bastard strangle you with a string of Christmas lights, okay?
CASTLE OF CHAOS – TAYLORSVILLE, UT
As you can see from the flyer there, Castle of Chaos really steps up to the plate by taking in charitable donations this time of year. Here at FrightProps, we actually come across a ton of people that put on haunted houses for charity events and it just goes to show you how caring, giving, and open-minded us Halloween freaks truly are.
SCARED CITY HAUNTED HOUSE – JONESBORO, AR
Open for one night only, Scared City gives you the chance to go through their haunt as many times as you want for the reasonable price of only $10! While we weren’t aware of they did a Christmas haunt, apparently this is their second year which means they’re apparently doing something right. Hopefully we get a chance to see what it is and they post tons of pictures from their haunt!
LOMBARD COMMONWEALTH HAUNTED HOUSE – LOMBARD, IL
Another haunted house rooted in controversy! Built by more than 100 kids, the organization that runs the haunted house was initially denied a permit to run their haunt this Christmas. Apparently they managed to persuade them as judging from their Facebook page, they’ve got their haunt up and running for the holidays!
13TH FLOOR – ALL OVER!
Unfortunately, it looks like we got this post up a little too late to promote 13th Floor’s Santa’s Slay event that was going on across the country. However, you can bet there were lasers firing and zombie heads exploding on all sides! Hopefully they offer the zombie apocalypse experience across a few other holidays – I know we certainly wouldn’t mind blasting a few cupids or even easter bunnies as we wait for Halloween 2015!
See any we missed? Do you have your own ghoulish holiday traditions that you know your haunter friends over at FrightProps might bleed tears of joy over seeing? Leave us a comment!
