Here we go again, folks – honoring those lousy holidays that aren’t Halloween. Hot chocolate, warm cookies, singing happy songs and all those other things that a lot of us probably don’t care about because we’re too busy mentally preparing our haunted houses for next year. But whatever – the kids love it and so do some of the people we all really care about. And hey – there’s usually a ton of food for us to devour, right?
But as we all know, those who are truly moved by the spirit of scaring don’t stop just because the calendar changes and the weather gets a little colder. And thank Krampus, that’s why we have these beautiful holiday horror events that a few brave haunters manage to put on every year to make sure people like us don’t feel too sad around the holidays.
Whether it’s Krampus, Evil Santa, some sort of Grinch-like creature or a scary version of the Nutcracker Ballet, there’s a ton of haunted houses creating their own special memories for the holidays. Check ’em out and if you’re nearby, grab some tickets and scream your little peppermint and gingerbread guts out for us.
No stranger to any haunted house list, one of the nation’s highest ranked haunted houses, Brighton Asylum, returns with a holiday haunt called Santa’s Slay. Open the 19th and the 26th, these New Jersey freaks offer a sinister Santa’s workshop rife with lobotomized elves. Santa’s little helpers have been turned into Santas little YELPERS! Get it? Because they’re lobotomized and probably yelp a lot? Or use Yelp a lot? Sure – lets go with that one. Anyway, Brighton Asylum promises you some gory holiday fun and given their reputation, they’ll certainly deliver.
Back on our list for 2015 is one of Illinois’ most legendarily terrifying haunts – THE MASSACRE! We heard rave reviews about their 2014 holiday haunt so we’re willing to bet the graveyard that this year will be even crazier! Evil nutcrackers, murderous elves – aw yeah! Just keep away from that creepy Santa, eh? The Massacre will be open on the 18th and 19th of December.
CHAMBER OF HORRORS
Chamber of Horrors out in Happauge, NY has also revealed this year’s take on a holiday haunted house with A Very Special X-Mas after their highly controversial 2014 production. Their commercial was actually BANNED! Hah, war on Christmas? Seems like things are pretty secure when they’re banning haunted house commercials. Sheesh. Their commercial this year doesn’t exactly show a great deal of their production, but it certainly does the trick in sending a chill down your spine. Check it out on the 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th of December.
Another haunt we’ve highlighted on the FrightProps blog is the famous Moxley Manor! Unfortunately it looks like their production happened on December 12th, but bookmark ’em and plan on hitting them up next year!
A haunt that I don’t recall having done a holiday haunted house in previous years, 3 Haunts, offers an X-Mas Scream maze production on December 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th plus January 1st and 2nd! We don’t have a whole lot of information on this event but hey, we’re definitely into the idea of Santa Claus cutting off an elf nose with a chainsaw!
Ft. Worth, TX
Yet another Texas haunt makes our holiday list – the highly acclaimed Cutting Edge Haunted House! Looks like their Christmas themed haunt happened on December 12th! If anyone has any pictures of how cool it was, send them our way!
This Tennessee haunt has also tossed their hat into the ring for the battle of who can disgust Christmas-lovers everywhere the hardest! Already showing one of the grossest Santas we’ve seen, the Nashville Nightmare offers a special paintball shooting gallery with their haunt on December 18th and 19th. Looks like they also give a special discount if you bring an unwrapped toy.
The ScareAtorium in Ohio is offering two haunted attractions for their Happy Horrordays event. Using their asylum as the backdrop for this creepy experience, they’ll also be transforming their funhouse into an “Evil Elf Workshop of Horrors” – nice! Their holiday horror runs on December 18th, 19th, 26th, and 27th.
Whether you catch their holiday haunt or join in a Krampus Walk, you can be sure that Dark Hour hits it hard when it comes to getting into the Krampus Spirit. Their diabolical Wreck The Halls production features an Ice Witch and of course, the evil Krampus, and runs December 18th and 19th along with January 1st and 2nd.
Deer Park, NY
Hah! This one looks pretty good – swarms of undead shopping mall Santa Clauses plague NYZ Apocalypse’s holiday horror on December 20th, 27th, and January 1st! From the reviews I’ve read of this place, it’s an absolute must if you’re a fan of blasting zombies with laser guns – WHICH WHO ISNT?
MISERY HAUNTED HOUSE
Out in our neck of the woods (sort of), Misery Haunted House offers a holiday haunt as well! Information on their production is scarce but we’ll update this post with any new stuff we find out.
DISTRICT OF THE DEAD
This upcoming weekend (December 18th and 19th), District of the Dead in Buffalo, NY has a Christmas themed haunt full of mangled childrens’ toys! If anyone can snap some pictures or take some video, please send them our way so we can post them here!
FACTORY OF FEAR
Shoot – Illinois and Texas deserve some sort of award for the most festive haunts on the planet! I think about half of this list is split between these two states. From the looks of it, this Quad Cities attraction seems to have it all – an asylum theme, creepy Santa, elves, weird toy dolls, and plenty of real Christmas decorations used for their own sinister purposes. Looks super inventive.
GLOWING GREENS MINI GOLF
https://www.glowinggreens.comPerhaps a first for our holiday haunt roundup, Glowing Greens is a mini-golf course that also offers a Krampus-themed escape room game. If you’re in the northwest part of the country, you have plenty of time to check it out as their holiday escape room runs from December 17th to the 24th and then again from the 26th to the 30th.
And there you have it – probably the most comprehensive list of holiday themed haunted houses for 2016! If we missed any or if you’ve been to one of these haunts and have some cool pictures or videos to share, drop us a line on our contact page!
