Sometimes I think people get the wrong impression of who we are. Because of the amount of people we sell Halloween decorations to every year ranging from home haunters to huge theme parks, I wonder if people think that we’re some giant, faceless company. Like we’re in an oversized windowless warehouse with a bunch of dreary eyed, impoverished jerks who hate our lives and our jobs.
Not to dog on any of the big guys by any means, but we like to keep things the same around here. We don’t have a lot of change. No revolving staff or anything like that. It’s like a little family here – once you’re in, you’re in. And it’s because of that fact that we’re taken care of by the company and we can in turn take care of each other. It’s what prevents us from going crazy when we have to do some of the less cool things that running a haunted house prop company involves. It’s not all just making zombie props, you know?
Someone has to move 100 boxes of prop motors (wiper motors, if you want to get technical about it). Currently, the guy moving all that stuff is a punk/metal drummer named Dan.
In short, by keeping things simple and consistent, we love coming to work every day. One thing that does change, however, is our super-sick totally awesome 100% radical and bodacious (who uses that word still?) FrightProps Catalog, lovingly crafted every year by FrightProps President, Doug Anderson, and Scott “Weird Beard” Bibus, our Creative Director.
And to tail on to what I was saying before, once we find people we like, we hold on to them. That’s why we’ve had the brilliant and acclaimed artist, Tim Seivert, draw each of our catalog covers starting with our 2012 catalog. Not that our prior artists’ works were anything to scoff at or we didn’t want to keep working with them on some level, but we’re sure you’ll agree that Tim’s work really helps step up our ghoulish image.
Here we are today, able to proudly exclaim that we’ve now been selling the finest haunted house supplies and accessories for over ten years. Pretty cool stuff, eh?
